Event organisers are putting on a special display of a replica 1956 Maserati 250 F which dominated in podium awards at the 1956 Australian Grand Prix, held at Melbourne’s Albert Park.
There were five 250 F cars entered in the event, and four of them finished in the top five.
British driver Stirling Moss took out first place, while Australian legend Reg Hunt finished in fourth place.
Born in Manchester and having migrated to Australia in 1949, Hunt established a career as a competitive and successful racing driver during the 1950s, winning many races in his 250 F.
He retired from racing Maseratis in the late 1950s to establish Reg Hunt Motors in Melbourne, which went on to become Australia’s largest Holden dealership.
Hunt will attend the Italian Auto Icons’ annual event as a special guest and, at 12:45 pm, a special presentation will take place in honour of his contribution to Maserati and to the Australian automotive industry.
In addition to a quality range of vintage, rare and current models of Italian classic cars, a selection of Italian motorcycles and scooters will be on display throughout the day.
The collection will feature vintage cars from the 1910s, including two cars with Italian design and engineering connections that raced in the Le Mans 24-hour event in 1925 and 1937.
Free public access to event from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
