Over 250 guests attended the Italian Awards Night at the Italian Forum Cultural Centre in Leichhardt.

Thomas Camporeale, Co.As.It. Sydney’s Director-General, welcomed guests and acknowledged the contribution of the Italian government and the NSW Department of Education in his introductory remarks.

“I would like to express Co.As.It’s gratitude for and recognition of the contribution of the Italian government, through the Sydney Consulate and the Italian Embassy in Canberra, and the NSW Department of Education, the Association of Independent Schools, and the Office of Catholic Education, in supporting the promotion of Italian language and culture in this state,” he said.

“On this occasion, we also recognise and celebrate the fundamental role of the Co.As.It. in promoting the Italian language and culture,” he continued.

“Co.As.It. is internationally recognised as the leading organisation of the Italian community in Australia, serving the Italian community since 1968.

“Our commitment to education and culture has played a vital role in enriching the lives of countless individuals and preserving the beauty of the Italian language and heritage.”

The evening saw awards given in seven categories, including a new national film competition on sustainability, in which Luca Zammit won the junior category with an outstanding short film.

The evening also celebrated Co.As.It.’s role in promoting Italian culture. Parents, teachers and students were applauded for their achievements with Camporeale closing the evening by congratulating the students on their passion and commitment.
