Mattia Fiaschini, 24, was last seen on CCTV leaving Blackheath Railway Station on January 29.
NSW Police appealed for information with officers admitting they had grave concerns for his safety.
Fiaschini had been living in the inner Sydney suburb of Surry Hills when it’s believed he travelled to the Blue Mountains for a day hike.
He was reported missing on January 30 after failing to arrive at work in Alexandria, in Sydney’s inner-west.
Following days of desperate searching, Fiaschini’s body was recovered on Sunday.
A search party found his body just after 2:30 pm near the Baltzer Lookout.
NSW Police said a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Fiaschini was from Cesenatico, on the Adriatic Coast, and had been living in Sydney for around two years.
