The allure of Italy never fades: food, music, sport, art and design from the Belpaese continue to enchant and inspire. The Melbourne Italian Festa & Expo 2025 proved it once again, delivering a resounding triumph of culture and taste as the Melbourne community made up a record crowd.
Over the weekend of October 18-19, thousands of visitors poured into the magnificent Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton to celebrate Italy in all its shades.
Between the indoor pavilions and outdoor stalls, the unmistakable scents and flavours of Italy, and the rich entertainment program, the event offered a sensory journey that captivated not only Italians but countless visitors from other backgrounds who were drawn in by the creativity and vibrant energy of the dolce vita.
Many distinguished guests and community representatives took to the main stage, including the CEO and President of Co.As.It. Melbourne, the festival’s main organising body, Marco Fedi and Vincent Volpe.
“The commitment and hard work made all this possible,” said Volpe, highlighting the dedication required to stage such a large-scale event.
“We also wish to thank Museum Victoria for once again allowing us to celebrate in such an incredible venue and setting.”
Victoria’s Deputy Premier, Ben Carroll, spoke of his personal connection with the Italian community and its profound contribution to local life.
“You are not only a wonderful people, but you have contributed magnificently to the growth of the State of Victoria,” he said.
Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs Evan Mulholland recalled his own Italian-Australian upbringing.
“I grew up at family picnics, dancing the tarantella in Reservoir with my cousins, and I still carry on that tradition today,” he shared. “It’s almost time to plant tomatoes, so I’m continuing my grandfather’s legacy by planting the best San Marzano.”
Also in attendance was Paolo Crudele, the Italian Ambassador to Australia, whose term is nearing its end - the event marked his final public appearance in Victoria.
“It’s an honour to take part in the Italian Festa & Expo,” he said, “a celebration that continues to represent a moment of great vitality for the Italian community, not only in Melbourne but across Victoria”.
“Over the years, this festival has truly become a staple event in our cultural calendar,” the Ambassador added.
In an exclusive interview with Rete Italia a few days after the celebration, Marco Fedi reflected on the success of the event and confirmed that attendance figures had surpassed even last year’s impressive record.
