The 97th annual awards ceremony gathered some of the biggest actors, directors and producers in Hollywood and beyond inside Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre.

As usual, the breathtaking haute couture was one of the winners of the star-filled evening.

Wicked star Ariana Grande stepped on the red carpet in a pale pink Schiaparelli architectural gown with a vast tulle skirt and a sculptural corset inspired by a lamp designed by artist Alberto Giacometti.

Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher donned a dreamy black Valentino gown with a triumph of ruffles.

Meanwhile, Armani Privé proved to be a trophy-worthy pick for celebrities Demi Moore and Felicity Jones as the two stars selected Italian icon Giorgio Armani’s haute couture line for the A-list occasion.

Eveningwear was a key part of the collection that featured outstanding silver looks with slimline cloaks and veiled gowns in a triumph of low-key elegance.

For daywear, the master of Italian fashion put on the catwalk a series of trousers - ranging from palazzo pants to revamped jodhpurs - paired with zigzag blazers, demi-wrapped blouses, deconstructed coats and bomber jackets in his trademark multiple shades of greige.

Flat shoes reigned supreme, providing a comfortably self-assured step to Armani’s take on effortless elegance.

The collection was called Roots and was faithful to the brand’s calling while evolving its language to search for a new harmony.

“I wanted to imagine a new harmony because I think it is what we need,” Armani said on the sidelines of the event.

“This season, I thought about roots, imagining clothes that take on the colours of earth, of minerals, of some landscapes burned by the sun,” he explained.

“Each collection represents for me the desire of finding new perspectives, of offering new interpretations for a clearly outlined style.”

Guests of the event included Holocaust survivor and Life senator Liliana Segre and actresses Lily James, Margherita Buy, Vittoria Puccini, Pilar Fogliati, Emanuela Fanelli and Romana Maggiora Vergano.
