A mural of Marge Simpson cutting her hair by Italian artist Alexsandro Palombo has been removed front of the Iranian consulate in Milan.

The work was created to commemorate Mahsa Amini and commend the courage of Iranian women.

The mural, entitled ‘The Cut’, depicted concerned-looking Marge Simpson, holding a pair of scissors in one hand, and a shorn chunk of her trademark blue hair in the other.

Protests erupted throughout the Islamic Republic from September 16, when Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman, died in custody, having been arrested by Iran’s morality police for allegedly not wearing a hijab, or headscarf, in the expected fashion.

Women in Iran have been taking to the streets, cutting off their hair and burning hijabs as a form of protest against the government’s laws that mandate the headscarf.

“Censoring a work created in solidarity with Mahsa Amini and all Iranian women fighting for their freedom is a cowardly act, an act of cowardice.

“The fact that it happened in a democratic country like Italy is of absolute gravity, it indicates a desire to stifle its deepest meaning. We will not be intimidated by this despicable gesture,” said Alexsandro Palombo of the removal.
