The celebration took place in the spacious hall of the Kellaway Neighbourhood Community Centre, nestled across from the lush greenery of Queens Park in the heart of the suburb.

Kicking off the much-anticipated event, President Nicola Portaro warmly welcomed around 180 members and guests, all elegantly dressed for the occasion. In his opening remarks, he proudly reflected on the journey of the club and acknowledged the ongoing dedication of the volunteers who keep it going.

Following Portaro’s introduction, Frank Di Blasi, the founder and president of the Moonee Valley Interfaith Network, took the stage. He offered heartfelt thanks to the committee and president, praising the excellent organisation and attention to detail, from the fresh floral arrangements to the vibrant decor that lit up the hall.

“This day is much more than a simple celebration,” Di Blasi said in his address. “It’s a living reflection of a commitment that has lasted for many years; a lasting gift your club offers to this community, especially to the elderly, many of whom live alone and look forward to these joyful events with anticipation and delight.”

“A thoughtfully prepared meal, the company of friends and the music of the talented Sam Balbo, who never fails to bring a smile, helps us forget the small aches and pains of age,” he continued.

“Today, we raise a glass not just to an anniversary, but to a cultural and social mission that enriches the lives of over 250 members. I’m honoured to be here with you and encourage you to continue giving your best for our great Italian community. You are a benchmark example of how passion and volunteerism can make a real difference.”

His heartfelt words were met with long and sincere applause.

During the event, President Portaro also announced a donation of $1100 to the Royal Children’s Hospital, the result of a fundraiser held at a previous event.

The afternoon unfolded in an atmosphere of joy and togetherness, with lively conversations among friends and family, delicious food served by Vizzini Catering Service and timeless tunes by Sam Balbo keeping spirits high well into the evening.

A special moment was dedicated to Councillor Tony Inserra, who was celebrating his 79th birthday.

The night was a wonderful, long-awaited celebration, thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all club members.

Three days later, on July 16 during the club’s Annual General Meeting moderated by Davide Viggiano and Francesco Pascalis from Co.As.It., members reviewed reports on the year’s activities, the annual financial statement and held elections for the executive committee.

All outgoing members were re-elected to their respective roles, with the exception of the secretary position, which was entrusted to member Alida Portaro, replacing Giuseppe Romano.
