Mattia Sorbi, an Italian freelance journalist, has been injured in war-ravaged Ukraine, sources said on Thursday.
The foreign ministry said that it has been in “in constant contact” with the reporter, who was hurt in the area of Kherson.
“He is being treated. We have positive news about his state of health,” the ministry said.
“We are working to bring him back safely to Italy as soon as possible.”
Local sources said the reporter was being treated in a hospital under Russian control.
The Russian defence ministry was quoted as saying that the Russian military was providing assistance to Sorbi and that he was injured by a Ukrainian mine that killed the driver of the vehicle he was in.
It described the explosion as “provocation by the Kyiv intelligence service to accuse Russia.”
Later on Thursday, Sorbi wrote on Facebook that he was safe and well, adding that communication problems had prevented him from posting online.
