The incident occurred two weeks ago.

Servadei didn’t hesitate to pursue the armed robber in his taxi.

The robber fled, leaving behind the stolen goods and his gun in a laneway.

The Commonwealth Bank recognised Servadei’s bravery, awarding him $200 in a presentation attended by deputy commissioner, Inspector R. Jackson.

Inspector Jackson complimented Servadei for his efforts, adding that the general public should follow his example and assist the police more in their investigations and operations.

“The police force does its bit,” Inspector Jackson said.

“It’s sad that members of society refuse to do theirs.

“Mr Servadei’s noble example should instil a greater sense of civic responsibility in people and demonstrate that criminals will always be persecuted, never protected.”
