That message was: rise from the ashes.
Tributes have been flowing in from across the world following the blaze which devastated the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, causing its iconic spire to collapse.
However, the message from Venice’s Fenice Theatre was particularly moving and soon went viral.
“We burnt twice but twice we have risen from the ashes stronger than before,” read a tweet from the Fenice Theatre.
“We are at your side, friends. Fear not!”
On December 15, 2003, the 18th-century theatre reopened to the public nearly eight years after it was destroyed by arson.
The fire engulfed the entire building, leaving only its exterior walls.

Upon its restoration, it was renamed La Fenice, or “the phoenix”, because locals said it had risen from the ashes of its former self.
The theatre was rebuilt “as it was, where it was” by a team of more than 200 workers at a cost of €90 million, and has continued to host performances since.
Another fire broke out at the Venetian theatre last year, caused by an electrical fault.
It was quickly put out by firefighters who said “you learn from history”.

Italian authorities have also shown their support for Paris overnight, with messages arriving from Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Vatican.
“The pope is close to France, he is praying for French Catholics and for the people of Paris in face of the terrible fire which has ravaged Notre Dame cathedral,” Alessandro Gisotti of the Vatican press office said.
Fire broke out at the Notre Dame at around 6:00 pm on Monday.
More than 400 firefighters were needed to tame the blaze that engulfed the roof and collapsed the spire of the 850-year-old cathedral.
The fire was finally declared under control at around 4:00 am on Tuesday.
A team of 50 investigators has begun the task of determining what sparked the blaze, as the world waits to find out how this tragedy occurred.
