The woman, from Bergamo, had been in intensive care at Aga Khan hospital in Mombasa and developed complications that gradually worsened.
According to Nova.News, Boldrina had been staying at the resort with her cousin, Mattia Ghilardi, who is originally from Valtellina, and the pair had been due to leave Kenya the day after the fire.
Witnesses said as the fire took hold, the pair had attempted to enter their room to retrieve their travel documents and some personal effects, but had quickly been overcome by the fire's flames and smoke.
Ghilardi also sustained burns in the blaze, but is now recovering and out of danger.
Local news reported there were up to 180 other Italian tourists staying at the resort, but that all had escaped to safety by fleeing to the beach.
Boldrina's mother has touched down in the capital thanks to assistance from the Italian Embassy in Kenya.
The embassy, through the consulate, had been following developments and had been in constant communication with local authorities.
