The woman, already a mother to two daughters aged 28 and 34, lives at Casale sul Sile near Treviso, in Veneto.
The baby girl - named Beatriz - was born at Mestre’s Angelo Hospital, in late December, weighing more than three kilograms.
Both mother and child are in good health.
The father is a South American man who is 17 years younger than his partner.
The oldest mother currently known to have conceived a child naturally was 59-year-old Dawn Brooke, from Guernsey in the Channel Islands, who gave birth to a son in 1997.
