The Fraternity Club is a favourite haunt of the Italians of the Illawarra.
There was an incredible lunch, music, traditional songs and Father Christmas was present.
The atmosphere was supportive and friendly, all surrounded by the colours of the Italian flag.
It was hosted by Pina Lupia Macpherson, with the cooperation of Gabriel Bresolin, who with an audiovisual presentation illustrated how Christmas is celebrated in the various regions of Italy.
The following clubs were present at the event: Com.It.Es., Alpini, Amici dell’Illawarra, Calabria Centro Culturale, Giuliani Wollongong, Marchigiani NSW, Trevisani Wollongong, Vicentini Wollongong, Ass. Madonna del Rosario, IATI, Ass. S. Giovanni Battista, Federazione Cattolica Italiana and Port Kembla FC.
Guests of honour included the state parliamentary Paul Scully, mayor of Wollongong Gordon Bradbery and vice consul Luca Ferrari, who was representing the consul general Arturo Arcano.
A sincere congratulations goes out to the organisers who, with the support of the Fraternity Club, managed to host a festa which had 380 guests of all ages – something which hasn’t happened for years!
The difficult yet wonderful task of uniting all the organisations, groups and associations is due without doubt to the efforts of Adriana Douglas, who, with the cooperation of various managers has created an annual event which will be repeated in the years to come, as well as the managing committee of the Fraternity Club of Fairy Meadow, which supports events in celebration of Italian culture and traditions.
