Some 347,279 Italians got the jab on Friday, according to the Emergency Commissioner’s Office.

This now adds up to a total of 10 million people in Italy, who have received at least one shot of a vaccine, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

Of those, 4.23 million have been fully vaccinated with a second dose.

Fifty per cent of the population over the age of 70 has now received at least one shot.

More than three-quarters of the over-80s have received their first dose of vaccine, standing at 76.09 per cent.

Those who are fully immunised comes to just under half, at 45.19 per cent.

Three quarters of healthcare workers and employees in nursing homes have been fully vaccinated with both shots.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Thursday said he is confident that 80 per cent of the Italian population will be fully vaccinated by the end of autumn.

Italy currently sits behind Germany and France in the vaccination program, but is just ahead of Spain, according to official data.
