The amendment "strongly condemns the spread of anti-rights, anti-gender and anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric by some influential political leaders and governments in the EU, as in the case of Hungary, Poland and Italy."
The amendment, which was approved by 282 votes in favor, 235 against and 10 abstentions, had been added to a resolution calling for the universal decriminalisation of homosexuality and transgender identity, in response to newly adopted anti-homosexuality legislation in Uganda.
The resolution was approved with 416 votes in favour, 62 against and 36 abstentions.
The European Parliament previously on March 31 voted in favour of an amendment condemning Italy for “the instructions given by the government to the Municipality of Milan not to register the children of same-parent couples anymore".
