With 28.2 donors for every million residents, Italy ranked behind Spain (the world’s leader with 48.9) and ahead of France (26.3), Great Britain (21.3) and Germany (11.4).
The result was confirmed by the annual activity report on transplants published on the website of the National transplant centre.
According to preliminary data issued in January, 2023 was the best year on record.
According to the International Registry in Organ Donation and Transplantation, Australia’s organ donation rate rose from 17.48 in 2022 to 19.43 in 2023.
