He is the son of former AC Milan striker and FIFA Player of the Year, current Liberia President George Weah, who recently told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport that he would loved to have played for Juve.

“I have always been a Juventus fan. I fell in love with Juventus when (Michel) Platini played for them and if I was asked what other team I would have wanted to play for, I would say Juventus,” he said.

Timothy spent his childhood in the United States but moved to Europe at the age of 15, when he joined the Paris Saint Germain academy in the summer of 2015.

The 23-year-old has won the French league title three times, twice with PSG and in 2021 with Lille, and he also lifted the Scottish title in 2019 during a loan stint at Celtic.

Juve said Lille would receive €10.3 million for Weah, payable in two financial years, with the addition of ancillary costs up to a maximum of €1,000,000.

It added that “bonuses up to a maximum of €2.1 million are envisaged upon achievement of agreed sporting objectives and/or conditions”.

Timothy could not hide his joy at joining Juve, with a delighted post on Instagram.

“Honored & Blessed to finally be Bianconeri,” he said alongside a photo of himself, Juve’s Chief Football Officer, Francesco Calvo, and Sporting Director, Giovanni Manna.

“None of this would have been possible without the love and support of my wonderful family.

“Thank you to everyone at Juventus for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to represent this legendary club.”
