The late-night comic host and four-time Oscar host told the comic actress “the situation is much worse than we imagined”.
Brooklyn-born Kimmel, 57, who has Italian ancestry, announced his citizenship on Italian Republic Day in Los Angeles on June 4.
“I just got citizenship, thanks to my beloved grandmother Edith, whose family came from Candida, in the province of Avellino,” he said from the stage set up in the garden of a villa in Beverly Hills.
“My grandfather’s parents came to New York from Ischia after an earthquake devastated Casamicciola in 1883, killing most of the family,” said Kimmel, who has been at the helm of the late-night show on ABC for 23 years.
