King Charles sends birthday greetings to WWII partisan

British monarch King Charles III on Wednesday sent his birthday greetings to an Italian woman partisan who worked for the British secret service during World War II and who turned 100 on Tuesday.

Charles III sent his best wishes to Paola Del Din, symbol of the Liberation struggle and the only surviving recipient of the Gold Medal for Military Valour of the Resistance.

London remembers her as a British secret service agent, under the cover name ‘Renata’, operating in northeastern Italy.

“Former Italian SOE agent Paola Del Din has turned 100 years old. I had the honour of writing to Mrs Del Din to bring her birthday greetings from His Majesty the King.

“I recently visited her at her home in Udine to thank her for her brave service in World War II,” wrote British Ambassador to Italy Sir Ed Llewellyn on X (formerly Twitter).
