Atalanta starting XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi, Kossounou (subbed for Hien), Djimsiti, Ahanor, Bellanova, Ederson, De Roon (subbed for Pasalic), Zappacosta, De Ketelaere (subbed for Samardzic), Lookman (subbed for Musah), Krstovic (subbed for Scamacca)

Bench: Rossi, Sportiello, Sulemana, Kolasinac, Bernasconi, Zalewski, Maldini

Goals: Samardzic 90’

The victory was a strong response from Ivan Juric’s side after their recent league defeat in Udine, though it was marred by a touchline dispute between the coach and Ademola Lookman during a substitution.

Earlier, Charles De Ketelaere had missed a first-half penalty after Nikola Krstovic was brought down by Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

Marseille threatened through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Marco Carnesecchi kept Atalanta in the match with key saves.

Both sides wasted chances after the break, including Raoul Bellanova’s close-range header, before Samardzic sealed the result with a superb left-foot shot into the top corner.

The win keeps Atalanta well-positioned in their group, though the tensions on the bench highlighted the pressure surrounding the team’s European campaign.
