The hosts looked set for all three points before Fiorentina fought back and then Lazio snatched a late equaliser deep into stoppage time.
The game kicked off at a frantic pace, with both sides eager to break the deadlock but unable to do so before half time.
Lazio, buoyed by home support, took the lead shortly after the break when Danilo Cataldi produced a well-taken finish after a one-two on the edge of the box put him through on goal.
Fiorentina were undeterred, however, and struck back in the 56th minute through Robin Gosens, whose first touch in the box and shot into the far corner were of the highest order, levelling the scores and shift the momentum.
As the contest entered its closing stages, a crucial moment arrived when Fiorentina were awarded a penalty for a foul. Albert Guðmundsson stepped up and converted to put the visitors in front with time running out.

But the Biancocelesti refused to go quietly. In the fifth minute of added time, Pedro calmly dispatched a penalty of his own after Zaccagni was upended in the box, earning the hosts a dramatic late equaliser and sparking wild celebrations.
Lazio will be relieved to have rescued a result after falling behind, while Fiorentina will rue letting two points slip at the death.
