The barrister and solicitor at the PMY Group, born in Melbourne to Sicilian parents, accepted the award with genuine excitement.

“It was truly incredible—such an honour. I didn’t expect it,” she said. “Sometimes you just need that little boost or that confirmation that you’re on the right track.”

Ficarra’s career has been defined by steady progression across legal and managerial roles. After early experience in law firms and as a legal assistant at Swisse, she spent nearly six years at Programmed, where she became legal counsel, managing contracts and legal matters across several sectors, from maintenance to health services.

She is now part of PMY, a sports technology company that enhances fan experiences at major global events.

Despite working in fields traditionally dominated by men, Ficarra says she has never felt discriminated against. She credits this confidence to her upbringing. “My mother is a strong, determined Sicilian woman,” she said.

“She taught me that I am just like everyone else, and never to let anyone make me feel otherwise. Being a woman should never be a limitation.”

For Ficarra, the award is not only a recognition of her professional achievements but also a sign that her contribution is respected and valued by her male counterparts.

Her Italian heritage has shaped her approach to work. Raised in a disciplined household, she learned rigour and responsibility early on—qualities that have helped her navigate complex professional environments.

At the same time, her natural communication skills, personal drive and ability to adapt—traits she associates with her cultural background—allow her to balance authority with diplomacy in different situations.
