Bentel crafted 100 units of the limited-edition leather handbag, which has already sold out after going on the market with a price tag of $199 on Wednesday.
With a stitched leather handle and a gold chain, the bag looks just like a box of Barilla’s penne pasta – complete with cooking instructions, nutritional information and a recipe idea on the back.
All of the imagery was printed using UV technology.
Bentel, who is known for his often humorous designs inspired by popular culture, came up with the idea while staring at a box of pasta during the coronavirus pandemic.
“The bag is an irreverent take on the past year of staying inside – using the mundane objects we had lying around during the pandemic and turning them into something a little more thrilling for our post-pandemic world,” the 27-year-old designer said in a press release.
“The goal of the bag is to inspire a bit of thought and reflection on being able to create something exciting from the mundane.”
The Pasta Bag is the third project of a series of storytelling products to be released sequentially every few weeks by Bentel.
