The discovery of her hanged body was first ruled a suicide.
It is the latest in a spate of femicides in Italy.
Aldo Rodolfo Di Nunzio, from Lanciano, was arrested by the Lanciano Carabinieri for the voluntary murder of his wife, Annamaria D’Eliseo.
D’Eliseo was found hanged with an electric cable in the basement garage outside the family home on July 15, 2022, in the Villa Iconicella area of the Abruzzo coastal town.
Initially, the police investigation had leaned towards the hypothesis of suicide, but last summer the chief prosecutor of Lanciano, Mirvana Di Serio, submitted a request for the man to be remanded in custody.
On that occasion, however, the request was rejected.
