The 49-year-old Ukrainian man, identified only as Serhii Ki, was arrested overnight by paramilitary Carabinieri police at San Clemente, in the province of Rimini.

He had been on vacation in Italy with his family for several days, sources said.

He was charged by the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office with involvement in the two Nord Stream explosions, over which Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations.

The man was taken to prison and is awaiting the execution of a European arrest warrant by the Bologna Court of Appeal.

He was apparently identified through a search.

According to reports, the man was allegedly on a yacht chartered for the alleged sabotage on the pipeline on September 26, 2022.

Neither Ukraine nor any other country has been implicated in the sabotage of the pipeline.
