The match will go ahead despite a call from the northeastern city’s mayor for the match to be postponed because of the Gaza conflict.

Former World Cup winning AC Milan midfielder Gattuso said Italy must also play Israel in the first group clash at Debrecen in Hungary next Monday.

“I’m a man of peace; I hope there is peace throughout the world,” he said.

“It hurts to see civilians and children lose their lives.

“But we have a job. [Italian Football Federation] President (Ganriele) Gravina is working hard to find solutions to ensure we play the match in Udine against Israel perfectly.

“Israel is in our group, we have to play against them.

“Unfortunately, there’s a war going on, and this hurts,” Gattuso remarked.
