The quartet, launched by X Factor Italy, immediately caught the audience’s attention with compelling performances of their powerful entry, Zitti e buoni, but they were not on the podium in the provisional ranking before the start of the final, reached instead thanks to the support of the televote.
As is tradition, Måneskin will now go on to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam in May.
Francesca Michielin and Fedez came second with their song Chiamami per nome, and the competition favourite, Ermal Meta, rounded out the top three with his hit Un milione di cose da dirti.
Måneskin, Danish for “moonshine”, are a quartet from Rome consisting of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi and drummer Ethan Torchio.
The group rose to fame after coming second place in the 11th series of X Factor Italy in 2017.
Immediately after the talent show, they skyrocketed in the charts, collecting several platinum records.
Before participating at Sanremo they released the single Vent’anni, which will be part of the new album Teatro d’ira: Vol.1, out on March 19, 2021.
