It was a crucial win for the Nerazzurri—their fourth in a row after the loss to Napoli and their eleventh in the last twelve matches, including the Champions League.
Lazio, despite an excellent performance from Mattia Zaccagni, woke up too late, coming close to getting back in the game only in the final minutes through Mario Gila, who hit the crossbar.
Inter started strong, immediately applying one of Chivu’s main tactical principles—extremely high pressing.
Just over two minutes in and it paid off as a turnover in Lazio’s defensive third allowed Bastoni to steal the ball from Gustav Isaksen and set up Lautaro, who fired under the crossbar to give Inter the lead.
Lazio tried to react through Zaccagni, who shot high from the edge of the box before creating some half chances that never really troubled Sommer.
In the second half, Lazio struck first with an attempt from Matteo Guendouzi that Sommer saved by diving low.
The Nerazzurri then shifted into a higher gear as the Inter captain sent Federico Dimarco through on goal. Dimarco’s low cross found the Bonny sneaking behind Alessio Romagnoli to slot home into an empty net.
Sarri tried to shake things up with a triple substitution, bringing on Vecino, Pedro and Noslin, but ultimately his side couldn’t breach Inter’s defence. The result leaves Lazio in ninth.
