The Mass was organised by the continental coordinator of the National Carabinieri Association (ANC), Antonio Bamonte, on behalf of president Luigi Miotello.
Numerous members of the Corps and their friends attended the celebration. During the homily, it was recalled that October 23 marked the Feast of Christ the King, whose reign of justice, love and peace perfectly reflects the mission of the Carabinieri.
Antonio Bamonte opened the ceremony by welcoming those present and noting that “on the day we pay tribute to the Virgo Fidelis, our thoughts turn to fallen Carabinieri, who honoured their oath with the ultimate sacrifice”.
He made special mention of Special Duties Lieutenant Marco Piffari, Brigadier Valerio Daprà and Senior Constable Davide Barnardello, who recently lost their lives in Castel d’Azzano (Verona) in the line of duty.
“Their memory and their actions stand as a constant reminder and an example of dedication to the nation,” he said.
Also in attendance was Italian Senator Francesco Giacobbe, who expressed his closeness to the Corps and to the Italian community.
“It was an honour to take part in the celebration of the Virgo Fidelis, protector of the Carabinieri,” the senator said.
“The Carabinieri are a force for peace, always at the service of citizens, on the front line for the security and social cohesion of our country.”
Giacobbe recalled the long history of the Corps: “For more than two centuries, the Carabinieri have served Italy with dedication and courage. Today we celebrate the women and men who have served, and continue to serve, our country—even at the cost of their lives—and we pay tribute to those who fell while carrying out their duty.”
He also highlighted the role of law enforcement within Italian communities abroad.
“Here in Sydney, we have representatives on the Force who honour the values of the uniform every day and strengthen our Italian community in Australia,” he said.
“To them, and to all Carabinieri, we express our deepest gratitude.”
Italian MP Nicola Carè was also present. “It’s a great honour for me to be here in Australia with all of you to celebrate together the Virgo Fidelis, patron saint of the Carabinieri,” he announced.
