On Thursday, President Sergio Mattarella had a “cordial” telephone conversation with King Charles III of the United Kingdom, the Italian head of State’s office said.
“During the conversation, President Mattarella reiterated his and the Italian Republic’s most deeply felt condolences for the death of Queen Elizabeth II,” the statement read.
The head of State is said to have recalled the visits of the sovereign to Italy, and the personal encounters they had had, as well as the friendship she showed towards the Bel Paese during the years of her reign.
“The president also expressed his best wishes to Charles III for the commencement of his reign”, the office concluded.
