There are currently 67 confirmed deaths with that number rising daily.
The most recent body to be recovered was that of a young girl.
According to local reports, Mattarella will visit the gymnasium that is currently housing the coffins of the victims.
Meanwhile, Cosimo Nicastro, a spokesperson for the coast guard, said there was nothing that could have been done to avoid the disaster.
“The tragedy wasn’t preventable based on the information we had,” he said onTV show Cinque minuti with Bruno Vespa.
“The elements that we were aware of didn’t make us think there would be a dangerous situation for the passengers.
“The boat hadn’t reported any information to the other coast guard organisations it encountered.”
Crotone’s port captain, Vittorio Aloi, also defended his organisation’s role, saying they acted within the guidelines and did all they could to assist.
“We really don’t like reading in the newspapers that we didn’t rescue anyone,” he said.
“We get it, you can save thousands of people but then if one child dies or some family is unable to be rescued, you seem useless in your job.”
