The director general of the Campania Regional School Office said Tuesday Stefano Addeo has been suspended from the ‘Medi’ high school in the province of Naples town of Cicciano.

His suspension was to “to guarantee and protect the serenity of the school community” pending the outcome of a disciplinary procedure.

In a subsequently deleted post, the teacher said he hoped Meloni’s daughter would meet the same fate as Martina Carbonaro, a 14-year-old girl murdered near Naples last week by her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend.

On Monday, Addeo was taken into hospital at Nola, near Naples, after having attempted to take his own life by overdosing on medication.

His condition was said to be serious but not life-threatening.

“I couldn’t stand all the media hype,” he told ANSA.

“I made a mistake, but I didn’t deserve to be crucified like this, I was lynched.

“I’ve apologised. I couldn’t take it.”

Addeo had asked to meet Meloni to apologise to her in person in an open letter sent to daily newspaper Roma.

The prime minister reportedly said she was willing to meet him before the news of the suicide attempt came out.
