An article published by Turin daily La Stampa claimed “security on the first floor of Palazzo Chigi has been entrusted to members of the security detail” of the prime minister instead of the police.

The head of Meloni’s press office, Fabrizio Alfano, while speaking to reporters at Palazzo Chigi, said the report is “without foundation”.

“Nothing has changed,” he said.

Alfano added that Meloni has “full and total confidence” in the police.

“Police remain on the first floor.

“Security measures haven’t changed,” he said.

The headline of the article published by La Stampa said, “Meloni fears plots and news leaks, police sent away from Palazzo Chigi office.”

Alfano said the only change that could have led to the report is “the fact that the prime minister has told the director of Palazzo Chigi’s inspectorate to reconsider the presence of a police officer exclusively deployed to accompany [people] in the elevator”.
