Meloni reportedly said she intends to go to Caivano and has accepted an invitation by local parish priest Don Maurizio Patriciello after the group abuse of the two cousins.
The girls, both aged 13, are believed to have been raped by a group of six teenagers, allegedly including one young adult, after being lured into an abandoned storage building at Parco Verde in Caivano in early July.
Investigations began in August after the girls’ families reported the incident to police.
The adult suspect is said to have been identified and arrested.
Meanwhile, the girls have reportedly been removed from the area and taken into care.
Father Partriciello said he was grateful that the prime minister had accepted his invite.
“I thank God and I thank Meloni,” Don Partriciello said after learning that the prime minister will go to the Green Park area of Caivano where the two cousins were allegedly raped.
“I thank the Prime Minister who accepted my invitation. She showed sensitivity.
“As a believer I thank the Lord who gives us the strength to go forward – he added – and not to give up.”
The news of the alleged offence comes amid ongoing investigations into the Palermo gang rape of a 19-year-old woman by seven young men, including a minor, on the night of July 6-7.
The case has garnered a great deal of media and societal interest across Italy.
