The ban, valid in Italy and the rest of Europe, was introduced in a case against the Visit Today company which used promotional material featuring David for entrance to the Accademia Gallery where the famed statue is housed.
The head of the body concerned with Florence’s Duomo and Baptistery, Luca Bagnoli, voiced his “satisfaction” at the court verdict, saying the problem of ticket touting or scalping also affects the Florentine cathedral.
Florence Mayor Dario Nardella said the ban was a good first step in conquering the issue.
“Now it is up to everyone - institutions, citizens and companies - to apply it and see it is respected,” he said.
“The image of Florence must not be commercially exploited without rules and without limits.”
