A 26-year-old minor-league footballer who collapsed on Sunday during a match near Florence has died, the mayor of the town he was playing for said on Facebook on Monday.

Mattia Giani collapsed while in action for Castelfiorentino against Lanciotto Campi in the Eccellenza championship match at the Campi Bisenzio municipal stadium.
He was rushed to Florence’s Careggi hospital.
Castelfiorentino Mayor Alessio Falorni said Monday that he had passed away there.
The match was abandoned.
