The 26-year-old Marche native found herself at the centre of a scandal after Italian magazine Oggi revealed she’d posed nude for a photo shoot.
The images were taken in 2015 on the Roman coast and depict Maggiorana naked and partially covered with her hair and a palm leaf.
Oggi reported that due to their risqué nature, the photos could be “non-compliant” with the Miss Italy’s regulations.
The magazine also highlighted that Maggiorana won the title of Miss Grand Prix 2009 and posed for a “sexy” calendar as part of the contest.
Article 8 of Miss Italy’s rules states that contestants mustn’t have willingly posed in any nude or inappropriate photos.
Miren, the company which organises the prestigious beauty contest, said the photos were “not incompatible” with the pageant’s rules and that Maggiorana would therefore keep her title.
“I’m very happy, but I had no doubts because I have always adhered to a correct conduct in my life,” Maggiorana said, stressing that the photos had been taken “by surprise, in fact stolen”.
