Parma dominated possession with 61 per cent of the ball, and created 11 scoring chances compared to Modena’s nine.
Both goals came early and within two minutes of one another.
Modena took the lead first after 14 minutes with a glancing header from Davide Diaw, who got on the end of a corner taken by Luca Tremolada.
Buffon seemed to get a foot to the ball however his touch sent it straight into the roof of the net.
Barely two minutes later it was Parma’s turn to capitalise from a set piece.
Estevez swung a deep freekick into the far post, where Cobbaut was able to bring it down with his shoulder before a rocket of a half-volley by Benedeyczak left Gagno with no chance.
Parma then went close to taking the lead via a long-range Estevez shot off one step, but it hit the post.
In the second half, Mihaila’s long-range shot dipped quickly but it was well saved by a diving Gagno.
Mihaila tried another shot from 25-yards out, this time sending in just over the crossbar.
The draw leaves Parma in seventh, while Modena will need a run of positive results to get into the top eight.
