Luca Strizzolo put the visitors ahead in under two minutes when he picked the pocket of a dallying Duccio Degli Innocenti before running in on goal and finishing neatly into the near post.

Alessandro Sersanti equalised for Lecco 20 minutes later by forcing a slightly less embarrassing turnover before running in on goal and blasting past the keeper from a tight angle.

Modena regained the lead in the 29th minute through Kleis Bozhanaj with a shot from 30 yards out.

Strizzolo had his brace six minutes later when he beat his man in the box to get on the end of a ball whipped in by Thomas Battistella.

Nicolo Buso made the game interesting by scoring for Lecco in the 59th minute when he cut inside his man and shot high into the far post.

However, there was to be no heroic last hurrah for Lecco who will play in Italy’s third division next season. Modena finish the Serie B season in tenth.
