Both sides had roughly the same amount of the ball with Modena creating eight chances to Sudtirol’s 14.
The home side was ahead in under ten minutes when Nicholas Bonfanti received the ball in the box, cut across his defender and shot straight into the near post.
Modena went 2-0 ahead in the 23rd minute when Luca Magnino profited off Sudtirol keeper Giacomo Poluzzi spilling a save straight into his path, allowing him to run onto it and finish.
Nine minutes after the break saw Sudtirol get themselves back into the game.
Some poor possession play meant Modena lost the ball in a dangerous area of the pitch.
The ball fell to Fabian Tait who blasted it in from distance past a helpless Seculin.
It was a nervy end to the game for Modena who had to defend more than they would have wanted, but they held on to win the game 2-1.
Sudtirol finish in sixth and will play playoff football.
Modena finish tenth and miss out.
