Italy’s Diana Bacosi and Gabriele Rossetti won the gold medal in the mixed team skeet shooting at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Monday (AEST).

The pair beat Americans Austen Smith and Vincent Hancock 45-44 in the final.

Rossetti missed only one shot, while Bacosi showed a cool head in the closing series, making all four of the last shots needed to seal the win.

It was Italy’s ninth gold medal of the Games and the second of the day after gymnast Alice D’Amato won the balance beam.

Her teammate Manila Esposito clinched bronze and China’s Yaqin Zhou won silver.

American gymnastics great Simone Biles was off the podium in fifth position after making a mistake.

In the pool, Gregorio Paltrinieri has won a silver medal in the men’s 1500m freestyle.

The Italian swimmer previously won a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle.

In men’s volleyball on Monday, Italy staged an epic comeback to beat Japan 20-25, 23-25, 27-25, 26-26, 17-15 to reach the semi-finals.

The Azzurri looked destined to crash out when Japan had three match points in the third set after having won the first two.

But they saved them all and went on to win the third and fourth sets before saving another match point on the way to victory in the tie-break.
