While Italy has enjoyed warm and sunny weather in recent days, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C in some areas, a powerful storm system will bring the risk of flash floods, landslides and mountain snowfall at the weekend and early next week.
Forecasts predict winds of up to 120 kilometres an hour along the coast, while northern Italy is expected to be hit the hardest.
Rainfall will begin in the north on Friday night, before spreading to Tuscany, Umbria and as far south as Sardinia by Sunday.
Heavy downfall is predicted to continue until Tuesday.
There’s also a high chance of rainfall over the weekend in the south, including in Campania and Sicily, which were both battered by extreme weather last week.
