The event was organised by Assoarma, Italy’s council of military associations, in collaboration with similar organisations in Victoria.
Around 200 people participated in the procession, accompanied by the music of Banda Bellini under the direction of conductor Giuliano Di Ienno.
The parade was led by president of the Associazione Fanteria della Goulburn Valley, Nicola Nicolaci, who proudly waved a banner which read: “Murchison, il Redipuglia d’Australia” (Murchison, the Redipuglia of Australia), in reference to the World War I memorial located near Fogliano Redipuglia, in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Nicolaci was flanked by Salvatore Profeta of the Associazione Arma Aeronautica.
The day began with a mass in honour of the fallen soldiers and was followed by official speeches by various authoritative figures, including the president of Com.It.Es. in Victoria and Tasmania, Francesco Pascalis.
The group then moved to the Murchison Community Centre for lunch and Banda Bellini’s ‘Springtime Rhythms in Murchison’ concert, promoted and organised by Frank Di Blasi and sponsored by Pino Narduzzo.
The concert was dedicated to the fallen soldiers, the late Maria Narduzzo, and Sisto Malaspina, who was tragically killed in the Bourke Street attack two days earlier.
