The 2025 edition of the Black Carpet Awards was officially presented at the Milan Municipality on Wednesday. The event is promoted by the Afro Fashion Association, a non-profit organisation founded in 2015 that operates between Italy and sub-Saharan Africa.
Run by volunteers, the association promotes fashion, art and culture as tools for intercultural exchange, empowerment and sustainable economic development.
“It is not just an award, but a platform of visibility for all those people who, often far from the spotlight, work daily to break the mould, broaden their gaze and build spaces where diversity and inclusion are true cultural, social and economic values,” explained Alessia Cappello, Councillor for Economic Development of the Milan Municipality.
“Having reached the third edition of the Black Carpet Awards,” explained Michelle Francine Ngonmo, founder and CEO of the Afro Fashion Association, “we renew our invitation to a collective commitment: to rewrite history together.
“Black, for us, represents the sum of all colours, a symbol of plurality and inclusion.
“Being seen, recognised and considered an integral part of society is a right that everyone should be able to experience.”
