The hosts, who had been on a four-match winning streak without conceding, were caught cold early but showed resilience to keep pace with the league leaders.
Verona stunned the home crowd with a lightning start. In the 16th minute, Martin Frese latched on to a clever low pass from Cheikh Niasse and instinctively backheeled the opening goal past Napoli keeper Vanja Milinković-Savić.
Just over ten minutes later, Verona were awarded a penalty after Alessandro Buongiorno was penalised for handball in the box. Gift Orban kept his composure and despite Milinković-Savić choosing the correct side, doubled the visitors’ lead—leaving Napoli in unfamiliar territory.
Napoli struggled for rhythm in the closing stages of the first half, their possession failing to translate into clear chances.
In the second half, Rasmus Højlund and Scott McTominay both saw efforts ruled out—Højlund’s goal chalked off for handball and McTominay’s for an offside call against Amir Rrahmani—as frustration mounted around the Maradona.
But the home side showed character. In the 54th minute, McTominay rose highest from a corner, sparking hope among the Napoli faithful.

With momentum shifting, Napoli continued to press for the equaliser. In the 82nd minute, captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo met a well-timed pass from Luca Marianucci and steered a precise finish beyond the keeper to make it 2–2.
Verona nearly snatched a famous win in stoppage time, when Giovane’s chipped effort narrowly missed, but Napoli held firm to earn a share of the spoils.
The draw keeps Napoli third in the Serie A standings with 38 points—just one behind the leaders—while Verona remain in deep relegation trouble, two points from safety with a spirited but ultimately frustrating away performance.
