The International Meteor Organization (IMO) and Italian agency PRISMA had received around 50 reports of a bright fireball seen above the province of Modena on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at around 18:25 Universal Time.

The event was caught on camera by the PRISMA fireball video network.

After careful trajectory analysis and having made the public aware of potential meteorite fall in the Cavezzo area, two pieces of the fresh meteorite fall were recovered on January 4.

They were discovered by local man Davide Gaddi, who was walking his dog along the Secchia river in the village of Disvetro when he found the “two strange rocks”.

Experts confirmed the pieces were fragments of the New Year meteorite.
