Mario Martone's ‘Nostalgia’ will represent Italy at next year's Oscars, the selection committee said on Monday.
The film, adapted from Ermanno Rea's novel of the same name and starring Pierfrancesco Favino as a man who returns to Naples after 45 years in Africa and the Middle East to find an old friend has become a criminal, will compete for the best foreign film award.
A shortlist of 21 candidates for the International Feature Film Award at the 95th Academy Awards on March 12 next year will be unveiled on December 21.
The five nominations will be announced on January 24.
