Across the state, 230 people are being treated in hospitals, 19 are in ICU and 15 are on ventilators.
Health officials are urging people to come forward to get tested for the virus, particularly over the weekend.
“Please do not worry about it being a weekend,” NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said this morning.
“We often see a dip in the number of testing we are doing on the weekend but that doesn’t have to be case.
“If you want to come forward on a Saturday or a Sunday, please do so.
“We dont want to see the dips over the weekends that we have seen in the last few weeks.
“We want to make sure we have got at least 8000 or so test as day, we are ramping it up.
“We want to keep that rate of testing equal every day to make sure we capture as many people as possible because the more people that get tested, the less likelihood of the spread.”
The premier added that social distancing restrictions could soon be eased in the state if more people come forward to get tested.
Berejiklian also announced that an extra $73 million will be used to extend the state’s mental health services to help those suffering in social isolation.
That’ll include an additional 180 staff across the state to support those most vulnerable.
“Do not be shy or do not be backward in coming forward if you do need help,” Berejiklian said.
“Those of you who might have a condition, it might be exacerbated under these circumstances or you might need support four your family or someone to talk to.
“Whether it is having a child or going through a life change at this time, we know the pressures on mental health are more severe than ever.”
A mental health hotline, which currently takes 200,000 calls per year, will be expanded to allow it to take a further 60,000 calls.
