The initiative by the Maria Ausiliatrice Institute at Bibbiano, near Reggio Emilia, will last until the end of November, Il Resto del Carlino newspaper reported Wednesday.
In collaboration with the local Uchi Oroshi Judo sports association, it has received the patronage of Bibbiano town council and was launched on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25.
“We always have a social dimension and a focus on the most vulnerable,” the Salesian nuns who direct the institute explained to the newspaper.
“That’s why we wanted to show our sensitivity to women.”
The course, led by expert instructors, offers self-defence techniques along with a program of body awareness, self-esteem and crisis management.
“We want to teach self-confidence and safety through movement and relationships, which are forms of prevention and growth,” the nuns added from the Bibbiano institute, where classes are scheduled for every Wednesday in November.
The institute’s director, Sister Paola Della Ciana, is a doctor and psychotherapist with experience in health education and socio-emotional education.
Founded in 1920, the Maria Ausiliatrice Institute is a Catholic school that today has 42 teachers, 48 staff and 370 students divided into 17 classes, from nursery school to middle school, as well as a vocational program and a music school.
