Italian pair Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini won the women’s doubles gold medal 2-6 6-1 (10-7) in a match tiebreaker this morning (AEST).

In doing so, Errani claimed her own doubles Golden Slam after winning all four majors with Roberta Vinci a decade ago.

Beaten pairing Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, competing under a neutral flag, became the first Russians to medal in Paris.

It was Italy’s first Olympic tennis medal since Uberto de Morpurgo won bronze in Paris in 1924.

Also today, Italian sprinter and Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs finished fifth in the men’s 100m final, .06 seconds behind the winner, USA’s Noah Lyles, in an extremely tight race.

In rowing, Stefano Oppo and Gabriel Soares won the silver medal in the men’s lightweight double skulls on Saturday.

The pair came second to Ireland and fended off the Greek pair in a close finish.

Also on Saturday, Marta Maggetti won the gold medal in women’s windsurfing in the final race in Marseille.

Maggetti won ahead of Israel’s Sharon Kantor and Britain’s Emma Wilson.

On Sunday in the men’s tennis singles, Lorenzo Musetti won the bronze medal after defeating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets 6-4 1-6 6-3.

It was the first Olympic medal for Musetti.

Meanwhile, Italy came away with a silver medal after the men’s foil fencing team with Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini and Guillame Bianchi lost to Japan 45-36 in the final at the Grand Palais on Sunday night.

Finally, the Italian women’s volleyball team became the first to complete their pool play schedule with all nine points in the tournament after beating Turkey on Sunday.

The team coached by Julio Velasco beat Turkey 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-21), in just one hour and six minutes.

They next play Serbia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 5 a.m. (AEST).
